Being a Model
If it is a challenge for a first time artist it is certainly a challenge to be a first time model. I help and co/register models for two Perth based groups and it is always good to get in touch with new models as there are very few 'permanent/reliable' models available.
If you are interested in being a model there are two things that Artists are looking for even before you take your clothes off. Reliability... you will arrive on time. Relaxation... you are not embarrassed and you can hold a pose.
For first timers, I may put you in contact with another model for some advice or arrange for a briefing. Best is when we can arrange for you to sit in on a session and you can see how it works. After the initial experience of the first pose it does not take long to get the hang of it.
Mostly artists want to be able to draw models who have a personal unaffected 'presence', They may be good at soft twists and bends, or angular actions, may be unfashionably 'ripe' looking, at ease, or have great features. This applies to blokes as well!
I personally prefer models without jewelry, tattoos, or make-up.
The going rate for nude modeling in Perth is between $60 and $80 for a three hour session. Private session are negotiable, usually less, but often preferred by some models
Currently in Perth there are about 10 consistent life drawing groups in operation. Models come into this circuit through contact with participating artists and from then get recommended on to other groups. To ensure the integrity and privacy of the model there is a very strict protocol around passing on contact information.
Currently there seems to be quite a number of female models available for daytime sessions but fewer male models. Potential male models please note that they are less hired than female models.
Because of a growing number of requests,if you wish to register, please provide the following information.
Name and age, honest description of your body type and degree of fitness and/or a photo. Daytime/weekday availability and whether you have your own transport. Degree of commitment to modeling and experience. Please give yes/no permission as to whether your email address can be passed on to other persons who hire models. Same applies to mobile number

Registration is private and no names or contact details are handed on without the permission of the model.
Please note, that if you are an inexperienced model we may request a coaching session, prior to group work. This particularly applies to male applicants. Female applicants may be referred to a female coach. There is no payment for these sessions or coaching.
Other avenues to apply are to the Art Departments of the local colleges and universities, who during term time use many models regularly.

The Artistic Hen is currently on the lookout for gym fit blokes to model for their special drawing sessions. The prerequesite is that you are have a really good body and are happy to pose for all female groups in a studio setting. Pays well and is good fun if you up for it. If you have not modelled before there will be a coaching session.
